How to wear leopard print?

What do you think when you hear leopard print? Do you like it or rather consider it totally unacceptable? Looks like it one of those trends you either love or totally hate.
Over the years, I have experimented with various forms of animal print, having affinity mainly for leopard and zebra. Check these recent examples here and here.
Since early spring, I’ve been in love with couple of great styles with a leopard print, and I’ve been involved in the mission of finding the perfect dress for me. Honestly, I did not expect it to be so difficult! There has been a lot of searching and selecting, but what matters is it has led to a result.
Actually, leopard is not the easiest to wear and combine. There are two major risks:
- incorrect selection of the leopard print hue – may be from a powder-pink base to a very dark one, passing through a yellowish-brown range (which is the trickiest and should be careful with!)
- too much leopard kills the leopard – here again we come to a sense of balance. Let it be present, but not suffocated by too much presence.
And if you’re afraid it might become a little too kitschy, let’s recall the words of Diana Vreeland:
A little bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika. We all need a splash of bad taste – it’s hearty, it’s healthy, it’s physical. I think we could use more of it. No taste is what I’m against.
Moreover, if a color / pattern exists in nature, it cannot be ugly or unacceptable, right? : )
Naturally, in such a combination, there is a key role for the accompanying accessories. Since the dress has an elongated silhouette – to the middle of the calf, it is good to combine it with heeled shoes. Here I have a special favorite, mules I have been looking at for quite some time, but didn’t dare to buy. When I saw these ice-cream-lavender beauties by Högl, I knew trying to resist was useless.
These slippers are the complementary accent that stands out and at the same time – complements the combination by giving it a light color. A very cool moment is the fact their heels are discreetly golden. Well, this kind of shoe can be worn practically with all sorts of clothes – both dresses and trousers. Color is also very versatile and beneficial for plenty of combinations. The ultimate accent are the large sunglasses that complement the color scheme of the dress.
Do you guys like this combo? : )
